Position Summary:

The System Manager of Patient Financial Services is responsible for assisting other leaders and supervisors with planning, directing, organizing, monitoring and staffing the department subject to policies, budgets, objectives and directives mandated by regulatory agencies, DNV and the executive team. Supports Patient Financial Services supervisors in maintaining team discipline for all elements of established standard processes (work management, tools, team briefings, metrics tracking and prompt resolution of issues, problems and opportunities). Directs and coordinates all functions of Patient Financial Services that relate to billing and payment activities for Bozeman Health and all related entities. Researches and creates education for all department functions regarding billing and payment related issues. Educates, reports, and provides information to organization regarding billing and payment progress.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business-related field or the equivalent of five successful years’ business experience

  • Three (3) years of experience prior experience in healthcare administration, revenue cycle, or management of accounts receivable

  • Five years of managerial experience

  • Knowledge of electronic healthcare payment transactions

  • Prior experience with Epic

  • Regulatory knowledge required for PPS and CAH Hospital, Provider-Based, Free-Standing Clinic, and Swing Bed Billing

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in healthcare administration or business administration or related field.

  • Preferred: Prior Patient Finance Services management experience

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure the accurate development and submission of claims to support reimbursement, including timely filing requirements

  • Monitor PFS billing and payment key performance indicators, i.e. collection rates, denial rates, clean claim rates, accounts receivable days, candidate for billing, undistributed payments, credit balances, and unposted payments

  • Develop reports/dashboards to summarize billing and payment trends to the applicable committees, work groups, and department leaders

  • Analyze, track, and trend payer reimbursement behavior and collaborate with payers to mitigate underpayments and facilitate timely reimbursement

  • Conduct research regarding billing denials as directed

  • Maintain knowledge of State and Federal Regulations including, Medicare Conditions of Participation, Medicare Billing and Reimbursement regulations, Commercial payor billing rules, and Bozeman Health Payer Contracts

  • Assists Director with broad operations to ensure the provision of comprehensive departmental services in compliance with all regulatory agencies and healthcare system requirements

  • Collaborates with the director to ensure a departmental approach to long-range strategic operational planning, care and service design and development of organizational policies, which reflect the mission of the organization and best practices

  • Coordinates and oversees the organization-wide departmental services. Continuously assesses, measures and improves departmental performance through mutually agreed upon and already approved metrics for success

  • Demonstrates responsible management of all departmental resources

  • Demonstrates clinical/technical and managerial competency. Ensures staff professional needs are met

  • Assesses current staffing model to determine if billing and payment functions are resourced appropriately

  • Leads, teaches, inspires, helps and consistently demonstrates hospital healthcare system standards

  • Standard office equipment and computer applications; MS Office, EMR, internet applications etc.Ability to work varied shifts
